AUBP, formerly UCEP

Upgrade your education and get the necessary prerequisites for your university, trades or health programs!

The AUBP program is for Indigenous students who want to upgrade their skills in English, Math and Science. We also have a specialized Education/Career Exploration course, Coast Salish Hul’q’umi’num’ language course, and homework support. Our instructors understand the challenges Aboriginal students face when returning to school, and provide support to make their experience a success. This program is eligible for government funding for the UCEP programming.

The AUBP Program includes the following:

Term one – Fall

Indigenous Learning and Recognition Portfolio (3 university credits)

Provides an opportunity for students to assess their prior learning experiences through the development of a personalized portfolio. This intensive reflective process is designed to help students begin to record their past experiential learning, thus validating knowledge and skills that come from family, community and cultural backgrounds. ILRP 100 was formerly called EDUC 103; credit will not be granted for both courses.

Study skills and homework support sessions

This course will provide you with study, research, and student skills such as: note-taking, exam preparation, presentations. You will also have dedicated, one-to-one homework support time.

Term two – Spring

Coast Salish Language Hul'q'umi'num' I (3 university credits)

This is an introductory course that will provide the opportunity to develop basic skills in the comprehension and oral presentation of Hul'q'umi'num'. Through classroom discussion, class project, and fieldtrips, we will address the following three themes: introductions, greetings, family and basic words for conversation. Students in FNAT 110, along with their instructor(s)/ Elders, are part of a learning community. Since the sharing and consideration of each other’s ideas and perspectives is vital to the health of our learning community and the richness of the educational experience for all, attendance at all classes and outings is essential.

Study skills and homework support sessions

To assist you with your Term Two courses, these sessions will provide you with study, research, and student skills such as: note-taking, exam preparation, presentations. You will also have dedicated, one-to-one homework support time.
